Who is Kiss Me Katie 411?
Hi, I’m Katie Sevenants, owner of Kiss Me Katie 411. I’m a beauty and skincare expert who helps professional women improve their makeup and skincare routines with fun, simple tips and techniques. Here’s how I came up with the name of Kiss Me Katie 411 LLC for my company.
In 2001, I was pregnant with my third daughter and working in the cruise industry where I had been for 19 years. The events of September 11, 2001 led the company I worked for to file for bankruptcy and I was faced with a lot of debt as well as how to earn income with 3 young ones at home. The cost to put all three in daycare just so I could earn a little extra just didn’t make sense financially plus I really didn’t want to miss out on all the moments of motherhood while they were in someone else's care.
I had heard many respected friends talk about this “new” makeup company that was a direct sales model that I could run from home without putting my girls in daycare. A friend suggested it might be something I would enjoy.
The day I was introduced to the Direct Sales company, SeneGence, by a woman who is now my “upline”, I saw her skin and thought, “If these products could make her skin look like that, I know other women will want these”. So I signed up to start a business without ever having prior purchase of the products. I had business sense from my past work history and immediately put it to use.
I started creating relationships and reconnecting with past friends and before I knew it, I had consistent business growth. Originally, I was running the business under my own name and soon realized the power of branding myself instead of branding the company I worked with. My first business name was My Beauty 411. I used this name for many years.
About 6 years into building my business, I earned an incentive promotion with SeneGence based on my sales. I was invited to create and name a new LipSense shade. My daughters and I scanned our favorite magazines for nail polish colors, clothing colors and anything else resembling the shade in our heads and created a huge collage of shades of peachy pink colors to send off to the product development team. At the time, I felt like most of the LipSense shades were very dated colors, very deep pigmented shades and I wanted to create a color that younger women might like - something sheer and natural…with just a hint of color.
The company spent a month or so formulating different shades and sent me 6 tubes of colors to try out and see which I preferred. Once we picked the shade (which was right in line with our collage colors), they went to work producing it. Now all I had to do was come up with the name for the color. I ran a contest with my customers to get creative and come up with a name. We had several ideas but none felt just right. Then a distributor friend said Kiss Me Kate and I loved it but wanted it to be my name so I decided on Kiss Me Katie. After all the thinking and brainstorming names, I kept coming back to Kiss Me Katie.
I sent the name off to SeneGence P & D and they went to work on packaging this new shade. It was finally ready and I was gifted with 20 of my new color! I looked at the packaging and noticed the name, Kiss Me Kate….what? My stomach dropped. I was so disappointed and wasn’t sure if I should say something or not. I finally spoke up and said thank you so much but the name…it’s supposed to be Kiss Me Katie. No one had caught the mistake but in true fashion of integrity, they took the LipSense tubes back and repackaged the entire launch to have the correct name.
That is how Kiss Me Katie the LipSense shade came to be!
Now, back to the name of my company… I decided on Kiss Me Katie 411. The 411 is a telephone code for information and since I used it in my previous business name, I thought it would make a smooth transition. So, Kiss Me Katie 411 was born! I offered information to my clients for all things Beauty.
That color I created so many years ago is still one of my personal summer favorites even though we currently have over 80 LipSense shades. I love to add it on top of many fun, brighter shades too. It’s a soft, frosty pinkish peach color perfect for anyone who wants just a soft touch of color. Add a shimmery SeneGence moisturizing gloss on top and you are set for the next 6-10 hours!
